Fed: New Officer of the Status of Women appointed
The federal government has appointed a new head for the Office of the Status of Women
after leaving the position vacant for almost six months.
Former public servant and journalist ROSEMARY CALDER will replace PRU GOWARD, who left
the office last October to head the federal government's Olympic taskforce.
The Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on the Status of Women, JOCELYN NEWMAN, has
made the announcement at the Liberal Party National Convention in Melbourne.
Senator NEWMAN says Ms CALDER will bring valuable experience to the post.
But opposition spokeswoman on the status of women, JENNY MACKLIN, says the delay in
appointing Ms GOWARD'S replacement shows the government doesn't consider the office a
priority.
