The New Trier baseball team made the most of its opportunitiesWednesday against Loyola. The No. 7 Trevians connected for only fourhits but still managed to knock off previously unbeaten Loyola 8-2 inWilmette.
The Trevians (3-3) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inningand never trailed. Loyola committed two errors while Ramblerspitchers walked five and hit three batters.
New Trier's Brandon Liss was representative of the Trevians'attack. Liss delivered after stepping to the plate twice with thebases loaded. He walked in his first at-bat and later was hit by apitch for his second RBI.
We don't put a lot of stock into a game like this," New Triercoach Mike Napoleon said. It's too early in the season. We just tryto take it one game at a time."
Zach Hofeld (1-1) allowed a Loyola run in the first and secondbefore shutting down the Ramblers (9-1). Hofeld went six innings,allowing eight hits and two walks while striking out five.
He settled down after the first two innings and started locatinghis fastball," Napoleon said.
Loyola starter Chris Friedrich (1-1), who took a 0.54 ERA into thegame, suffered the loss for the Ramblers.
NOTRE DAME 6, BARRINGTON 5: John Kartzmeyer went 2-for-4 with adouble, and Nick Robinson was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI and arun for visiting Notre Dame (8-2). Mike Kloss (1-0) worked 5?228-137? innings for the win.
NAZARETH 11, TIMOTHY CHRISTIAN 4: Ian Lisak went 3-for-4 with twohomers and five RBI for visiting Nazareth (5-4). Gio Cantwell addedthree doubles for the Roadrunners.

Gillette no-no sparks Fremd
Stacy Gillette hurled a no-hitter as No. 9 Fremd (5-1) coasted toa 10-0 win over Prairie Ridge in five innings. Gillette walked noneand struck out seven.
LYONS 4, NAZARETH 0: Laura Wronski pitched a complete-game shutoutwhile striking out six. Amy Horn hit a three-run homer for the Lions(2-0).
CLEMENTE 22, JUAREZ 12: Senior first baseman Rushonia Blanchehomered twice and finished with nine RBI to lead host Clemente (1-3,1-3 Public North).
GIRLS SOCCER
Rios, Sanchez spur Kelly win
Maria Rios and Mercedes Sanchez scored to lead Kelly past Amundsen2-1.
Adriana Sanchez added an assist for the Trojans (1-1-1, 1-0 PublicFirst).
