GORE-TEX joint sealant is a form-in-place gasketing material made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene that can be used at temperatures from -450F to 600F and pressures to 3,000 psi. The sealant has recently been improved and is now 50% stronger than previously. The increased tensile strength makes it more creep-resistant, thereby improving seal reliability. It also offers cost advantages - because it is customized onsite, the sealant allows the user to eliminate costly material scrap, lengthy lead times, and the inventory burdens of stocking large or complex flange gaskets that must be pre-cut.
