NSW: Mater hospital sex attack victims urged to come forward
Police are appealing for women who have been raped or sexually assaulted at Newcastle'sMater Hospital to come forward.
Waratah Local Area Commander Superintendent LEE SHEARER has dismissed as speculationreports that up to 11 people have been assaulted at the hospital during the past 10 years.
But she's urged any victims to make themselves known to police.
She confirms police are investigating two allegations of sexual assault, includingthe rape and bashing in June this year of a 50-year-old cancer patient.
And a former nurse recently told police she was sexually assaulted in the hospitalgrounds in the 1990s.
Meanwhile, the hospital's general manager COLIN OSBORNE says he has no knowledge ofany sex attacks there aside from the incident in June.
