NSW: Eight hospitalised after Gosford ammonia spill
SYDNEY, Dec 21 AAP - Eight people were hospitalised after an ammonia leak at Gosford on the
New South Wales central coast today, a fire brigades spokesman said.
Workers were removing ammonia from the refrigeration units of an old food factory in Manns
Road when the concentration of the gas, being pumped into containers of water, rose to
dangerous levels, the spokesman said.
Eight people were taken to Gosford Hospital suffering from the effects of the gas just
after 10.30am (AEDT).
The spokesman said four fire units were working to dilute the gas to safe levels as there
was concern about its environmental impact on a nearby creek.
"This gas is a very dangerous thing to play with," he said.
